John has over 20 years experience working in the financial services industry in Ireland and the United States. His early career was with Irish Life in Dublin and the US, where he held a number of senior financial management and M&A positions.In 2003, John was a founding director of Acuvest. Since then Acuvest has grown into a successful specialist advisory business with a strong reputation in the corporate marketplace.John is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
David is a Maths major from Oxford University and a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries. He joined Irish Life in 1968, having worked in pensions and investments with Scottish Widows.David led a number of divisions in Irish Life including Investment Management, Pensions and Marketing before becoming CEO, a position he held for fourteen years until 1998 when he retired. During this time David led the company’s move from Government ownership to Stock Exchange flotation.From 1998 to 2007, David was Chairman of The Irish Stock Exchange. He was President of the Faculty of Actuaries (UK) 2000–02.David is a founding Director and Chairman of Acuvest.
Seamus is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and has over 26 years experience in Financial Services.Seamus was Group Financial Controller for Irish Life and subsequently head of their UK operations for three years. He then joined Royal London Insurance responsible for financial control and for integration when Royal London acquired United Assurance /Scottish Life.In 2002, Seamus joined Barclays Bank in Dublin as Finance Director of their general insurance business and then became MD of Barclay’s insurance (€1bn turnover).Since leaving Barclays, Seamus has run his own management consultancy with some of the largest Irish and UK banks as clients.Seamus joined Acuvest in 2008 as Commercial Director.
Monty has extensive international experience in Investments, Life Assurance and Banking. He qualified as an actuary in 1966. Monty was CEO of Liberty Life (South Africa) before moving to Australia where he joined Westpac Banking Corporation. He started Westpac Life and also headed up Westpac’s Investment Division.His expertise in the Multi-Manager business led to the creation of a joint venture with Irish Life & Permanent.Monty retired from the Board of Irish Life and Permanent plc in 2003.He is a founding Director of Acuvest.
Damian is Chief Operating Officer of Acuvest.Damian joined Acuvest in 2006, having spent time in senior roles with Rehab Glassco, Bank of Ireland and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a leading member of Acuvest’s Investment Analysis and Research function and has spent over five years providing investment advice to institutional investors and assessing the financial position of companies from the perspective of various stakeholders, including corporate investors, lenders, auditors and reporting accountants.Damian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and is a CFA charter-holder.
Michael is an actuary and has over 40 years’ experience in investment markets.Michael gained his initial investment experience with Irish Life, where he became head of fixed income in 1978. He then worked in London between 1980 and 1991 in a variety of investment roles with Citibank, Charles Fulton (IDB) and Bank of Ireland Asset Management.In 1991 Michael became director and head of investment at New Ireland Investment Managers. From 1997 to 2006 he was an associate director of BIAM (Bank of Ireland Asset Management) and a director of BIAM (US) where he worked in a client servicing and business development role.Michael joined Acuvest in 2007.
Rebekah is a CFA charterholder who has 10 years experience in the investment industry. Beginning her career as a Risk & Asset Allocation Analyst with the €20 billion National Pension Reserve Fund (NPRF), Rebekah joined Acuvest in 2008 as an Investment Analyst. Within Acuvest Rebekah focuses on investment research & client management, working predominately with pension funds & religious congregations.
Ken is an actuary with over 35 years’ experience in the investment industry.In the earlier part of his career, Ken worked at Standard Life Investments, filling a variety of roles including Global Strategist. Over the past several years he has served as an independent pension trustee for UK funds and developed both long and short term investment strategies for IFA firms. Ken is a member of the FTSE Policy Group, a committee whose function is to advise the FTSE company on index methodology and inform the company on issues relating to the use of indices.Ken is Chairman of Acuvest’s Investment Committee.
Chris was Managing Director of Bank of Ireland Asset Management and subsequently led that business through its transition to new ownership under SSgA where he assumed the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, Fundamental Equities. Earlier in his career Chris held numerous economist and investment strategist roles in both Ireland and the UK. A portfolio manager with over 30 years' experience in investment markets Chris joined the Acuvest Investment Committee in 2014.
After completing a degree in Psychology and Economics, Candia joined Scottish Life in 1995 and qualified as an actuary in 1998. She remained with the group until 2003, working in DC administration, and latterly becoming responsible for developing and promoting Scottish Life’s pension fund range. Candia is based in Edinburgh and now works both as an independent pension trustee for defined benefit and defined contribution clients, and as a consultant on pension and investment matters. She has also been an Examiner for the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries. Candia joined Acuvest in 2008.
Gerard joined Acuvest in September 2013, having worked as a mechanical engineer for almost 9 years. He worked in the power and utilities sector in Ireland, including over 4 years managing the power plant at the Guinness St James’ Gate brewery. Gerard has successfully completed the CFA exams and is also an AITI Chartered Tax Adviser.
Willie Holmes spent 37 years working for Irish Life, for the last 20 years as General Manager. An Actuary by profession, he worked across range of areas in Irish Life including sales, investments, marketing and administration. He is highly respected in Irish financial services.He’s a founding member of the Sales Institute of Ireland and has had many roles in LIMRA, the international trade association of some 800 Financial Services Companies, including Chairman of LIMRA Europe and Main Board member of LIMRA International.He is also a Director of the LIA, which provides training to the financial services industry; a Director of the Financial Planning Standards Board Ireland; a Director of IMO Financial Services; Director of Intesa SanPaolo Life; and a Director of Union Heritage Life.
Paul is the former Pensions Manager at Arnotts Ltd where he managed their significant defined benefit pension scheme for six years.Paul has 20 years’ experience in financial services. Prior to Arnotts, he worked with the EBS Building Society establishing their PRSA business and he also worked in Irish Life plc (Corporate Business – Group Pensions & Risk), AIB Finance & Leasing and Coyle Hamilton (now Willis).Paul is a graduate of both UCD and DCU. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland where he serves on both the Operational and the Audit Committees of the Council.
Jim is an experienced manager with over 25 years of experience working in a variety of industries. His experience includes 18 years working in the US. In addition to his accounting and finance background, Jim’s experience also covers operations management and IT.Jim has worked for a Chicago based corporate law firm, as Financial Controller for the US division of a manufacturer of diabetes monitoring and healthcare worker safety solutions and as Financial Controller for a San Francisco based IT company. Upon returning to Ireland in 2005 Jim spent a number of years working in finance and operations positions in the property sector.Jim joined Acuvest in April 2010.
Originally from South Africa, Samantha started her career working for a law firm before moving to the property sector where she worked for four years. Moving to Ireland in 2002, Samantha worked with Baxter Healthcare Ltd, a multi-national healthcare company for 5 years and held the position of Health and Safety Co-ordinator with responsibility for three Baxter sites. Samantha joined Acuvest in 2007, where her responsibilities include Office Management, Client Services and Marketing.
Gráinne has over 20 years’ experience in the investment industry.From 2003 to 2009, Gráinne was a Senior Relationship Manager with BIAM looking after large Irish institutional clients. Prior to that, she spent four years working as a Portfolio Specialist in their investment team working with clients in North America, Europe and Australasia.Before this Gráinne spent five years in London, initially working with SBC Warburg where she provided Institutional Investor Relations services to clients which included FTSE 100 listed companies. She then joined Henderson Global Investors as Head of Institutional Marketing, where her experience included the establishment of their North American Retail Distribution operation.Gráinne joined Acuvest in 2010.
